![]() A 2 years programme for international volunteers - with leadership training included Join hands with us in the fight against poverty! Make use of your potential and develope your capacity! This programme is for You who considers a long term commitment. It is a start. And the need will be there for many years ahead, that's for sure. The programme comprises three periods: 1st Period: 6 months Preparation Period in Berlin 2nd Period: 6 months Project Period in Africa 3rd Period: 12 months Second Year in Europe Teams start in January, April, July and October. During the preparation period, the team of Development Instructors (DIs) prepares for the work in Africa. Through studies and courses, but at least as much by practical training and experiences. Each DI will be assigned a position in Africa, and will communicate directly with the project leader there and also prepare specifically for his/her position. You learn about the world we live in, about the country you go to, you get to know more about HUMANA and discuss strategies of development aid, you learn language and project skills, you get training in planning and implementing actions and working together about it. Thirty hours per week are work within a Humana production or sales activity, thus earning a salary which makes it possible to cover the costs of the preparation period. These jobs also provide a valuable "real life setting" - you gather a lot of experience that will be useful in both the second and the third period. Teams consist of 5 people and go through the whole programme together. The project period in Africa consists of an assignment in one specific project. Examples of project types are Child Aid, Hope or TCE against HIV/AIDS, Clothes Sales, Farmers Clubs, Teacher Training Colleges, Vocational Schools etc. The position will be described by the responsible project leader during the preparation period. The idea of the second year is to increase the Humana activities in Europe, as these provide for much of the support needed in Africa. This means more Humana shops, new Humana sorting centers, new collection areas, and establishing more partnerships. You will utilise the many experiences you have gathered, and combine these with the infrastructure and the network of the existing Humana organisations. You will manage and work with the new activity in eastern or western Europe. It might even be starting a whole new Humana entity with social projects as well as fundraising activities in f.x. Romania, Switzerland, Ireland or Belarus. It could also be starting up a new activity or expanding existing activities in Germany, Poland, Bulgaria or any other country, where a Humana organisation already exists. Qualifications You need to understand English for joining the team, and it is best if you also speak German: the language of the theoretical part and among team members is English, and the language of the practical work and actions is German. Many people in Berlin do not speak English as they grew up in the former East. Be prepared to learn other languages throughout the programme, such as Chichewa for Malawi and f.x. Polish. You need a working permit for Germany. You do not need specific formal qualifications such as schools' certificates or professional background, religious recognition etc. Concerning age you need to be 18 years or above. What really counts is that you are a team player, hard working, open minded, reliable and flexible. Economy You pay an enrollment fee of 400 Euro at the time of enrolment. All other costs for the preparation period will be paid through your work. You also contribute 500 Euro to the travel costs to Africa. In addition to this, the DI team will do fundraising actions during the preparation period in order to cover another 500 Euro per person of the travel costs to Africa. During the project period, accommodation, food and pocket money will be paid by the receiving organisation. The second year will have an economy based on the type of expansion/development to be done. Typically, the Development Instructor will be employed in the Humana entity, in which the activity takes place. Interested?
